KOYAL EPK

Now LA-based, Koyal is made up of best friends Pooja Prabakaran (vocals), Noah Weinstein (guitar/producer) and Wallace (drums) who met in their Atlanta college basement and each earned engineering degrees.

The group's namesake is a koyal, a black southeast Asian songbird that Pooja heard everyday outside her window during the 3 years she lived in India.

Koyal is playing 3 US festivals on tour this summer of 2026: Winnetka Music Festival, Mile of Music, and Musikfest alongside renowned artists like AJR, Father John Misty, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Grace Potter, TRAIN, and more.

The group played at Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival in 2024, alongside Barenaked Ladies, Moon Taxi, +Live+, Sister Hazel, Lisa Loeb, and Crash Test Dummies. In 2023, Koyal sold out their hometown venue The Masquerade and set out on a headline East Coast tour.

Most recently in the spring of 2025, Koyal released their sophomore album "breathe in. breathe out." Upon its release, the album received high praise from Pleaser Magazine, The LUNA Collective, The Knockturnal and more. The Honey POP wrote the LP is, "incredible.. dynamic.. the perfect mix of light indie and edgier rock."

With their new album out in the world, the trio aims to solidify their place in the rising indie pop/rock sphere with their hearts on their sleeves.

Pleaser Magazine A Study in Breathing: Koyal and Their Electrifying Second Album ‘breathe in. breathe out.’

“Listening to … Koyal felt a lot like meditation to me. Entitled breathe in. breathe out, this album was the program of meditation I had always hoped for and one I thoroughly comprehend. Through the groovy, psych-pop melodies, I felt a familiar restlessness in the lyrics and theatrical tension in the production; a companionable angst that was enough challenge to edify and not to discourage. Still, even with the exegesis immersed in nearly every song, there is affirmation and release. “

The Concert Chronicles Koyal’s ‘hiatus’ makes unplugging sound like paradise

"..throwback groove, punctuated by strutting saxophone lines and synth flourishes that would make CHIC proud, creates an irresistible backdrop for lyrics that celebrate choosing solitude over constant connection." "The trio has managed to craft something remarkable here: a dance track about the joy of missing out. Their evolution from Atlanta basement jams to this polished, purposeful pop suggests their upcoming album might offer more than just a temporary escape from the notification avalanche."
